I'll Give You My Rest

Celebrating the art of Daniel Gerhartz

Jesus exclaimed, ‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest.
Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.’

Matthew 11: 28-30

O come unto me and labour no more,
Enter the sheepfold, I am the door,
Lay down your load and come be my guest,
Come know you are blessed,
O come, I'll give you my rest.

O come to the banquet, do not dissent,
Feast to your heart's content.

The room is prepared, a place set for you,
Come to the table, all honour is due,
Welcome and share the repast divine,
Come take bread and wine,
O come, drink the true vine.

My body is broken, outpoured my love,
My spirit rests like a dove.

My yoke is easy, my burden light,
The harness won't chafe when fitted aright,
Abandon your cares and worldly renown,
Come, lay your arms down,
O come, take up your crown.

Pray, do not delay, for time hurries on,
Repent lest the chance be gone.

So come unto me and labour no more
Enter the sheepfold, I am the door,
Lay down your load and come be my guest,
Come know you are blessed,
O come, I'll give you my rest.

Come, rest from your quest,
Rest divine! Rest...!

A hymn with a melody as yet unscored.
